My HP Mini Note 2133 wasn't receiving a whole lot of use. So I decided to trade it off... and what I got in exchange is a Nikon D40 digital-SLR camera. It's only got a 6 megapixel sensor but that so far seems to be more than enough... it's pictures have so far blown the Z812 out of the water entirely. (See the ROKR E8 review for examples.) It's rather compact for a DSLR (not as compact as a Four-Thirds or Micro Four-Thirds, though). It's got a rather sizable display, and certainly doesn't appear old like many of my other DSLR options. If I had two things extra I wish it could take 12fps photos (it does more like 3 or 2), and one or two more megapixels just to make me feel better. As I've learned, though, less megapixels in the same space means larger (and more sensitive) pixels, and a better quality image. Still... here's wishing...
I'm not big into zoom photos (and neither am I planning to use this seriously for sports or anything), so a nice telephoto lens prolly isn't going to be a purchase ever. A fisheye lens would be quite nice... I've yet to find anything substantial that isn't pricey, but I might get a threaded attachment to achieve nearly the same result. A remote and an external flash attachment would be awesome additions, too. We'll see though... right now I'm just wowed by the wide-angle I can already achieve and the amazing macro abilities.
Thanks for the review! I've had a D70 for years and love it. Rock
solid and such a long battery life that makes me wonder if alien
technology is involved.
BTW, I read your sidekick review and it sounded like you were trading it off...but there's a sidekick sitting next to the camera!
Hows the data crash going? I read about the contacts recovery tool (name and phone number only). Any bad side effects at your end?

@Mazerlodge
You're right- the Sidekick was still there! This picture really doesn't fall into chronological order at all... in fact, it's really out of place. The Sidekick was traded off for a Motorola ROKR E8 just in the knick of time, and this photo was taken with a Kodak Z812 IS (which has since been traded off for an Archos 605 WiFi since I had acquired the D40).
The data crash sounds like a total mess... I've got a friend who *would* have been able to tell me how bad it was but they bought a new Blackberry and sold their Sidekick literally the day before the first server crash. Talk about lucky! But as someone who never truly had T-Mobile and thus never had access to the server, I can tell you that these devices sure can be a pain in the rear to constantly restore info from the SIM. This really is a device you never want the power to die on, ever, unless you're on T-Mobile with a Sidekick Data Plan. But as I think you and I both know... doesn't mean so much anymore, does it?
